Auburn State Recreation Area

Auburn State Recreation Area spans 40 miles of the American River Canyon, offering some of the best outdoor adventure in Northern California. Visitors can hike, bike, horseback ride, or simply enjoy the sweeping canyon views along more than 100 miles of trails. The confluence of the North and Middle Forks of the American River provides excellent opportunities for white-water rafting, kayaking, and fishing.

The area’s natural beauty is matched by its Gold Rush history, with remnants of mining operations still visible along certain trails. Picnic areas and swimming holes make it a popular destination in summer, while cooler months bring dramatic scenery and fewer crowds. Its location just minutes from downtown Auburn adds to the park’s appeal for both residents and visitors.
